Posted by: dc on Aug 12, 2011 at 06:57 PM to V, agreed, no matter what they tell me, bottom line is, my taxes go UP EVERY year. Maybe we need changes here as well as Austin and Washington. Posted by: V on Aug 12, 2011 at 06:44 PM 1. They raise or change the rate. 2. They change the formula for how they calculate sq ft. 3. They hold the rate but raise school taxes or something else. bottom line is they bleed the residents dry year after year. They manipulate the public into believing they are not raising taxes. Posted by: Fed up on Aug 12, 2011 at 06:39 PM Crooks. just like grimes county. why are taxes based on property value. It doesnt matter what you have. We all use the same roads, law enforcment ect. a person with 500,000.00 dollars worth of property doesnt use the road anymore than a person with 5,000.00 worth of property. just means that petson chose to save his money and spend it on his house or land. He shouldnt be punished for that. When you by a gallon of milk they dont ask you what your properties worth. We all pay the same. The city should present a number to a buget commitee and if aproved the cost should be divided betweem every person in the county. Taxes should be based on what the county needs, not what it can get. It hurts the economy as well. I would like to build a new shop but i know my taxes will go up so i dont. Thst puts the metal building contractor out if a job. My neighbor wont build his pool because he says he?ll have to pay for it forever. Thats one less job for the pool people. My wife and i dont keep our yard as neat as we use to because it raises our tax.
