JBNBlog is happy to pass along some Hogwarts details about an exciting event coming our way . . . the actor who plays Luna Lovegood is to speak next month.

Harry Potter fans are free to bring JBNBlog up to date about what he?s missed while spending most of his life in Hobbiton.

Here?s the Brescia University College media release:

Evanna Lynch, the actress who plays Luna Lovegood in the famous Harry Potter film franchise, will speak at Brescia University College onOctober 11th. The talk, in celebration of International Day of the Girl is a part of Brescia?s annual Sophia Series, a lecture series showcasing women who embody leadership, or who play active roles in the environment, arts, politics, or spirituality. An official Evanna Lynch spokesperson says, ?Evanna is honoured to be speaking at Brescia.?She has been inspired by the strong female role models in her life, and is thrilled to be a part of inspiring leadership for social change in the next generation of young women.? And of course, Brescia is thrilled to be hosting such a sensational role model.

?

While Evanna is best known for her award-nominating role as Luna, she also has important things to say to young women that go far beyond tips on acting. Since becoming a well known name on the big screen, Evanna has been actively involved in various organizations and charities, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Harry Potter Alliance, a non-profit organization that spear-headed the ?Imagine Better Project.? This project has been close to her heart as she has written various articles about body image and self-esteem, as well as on the women who have inspired her in her own life. Brescia?s Principal, Dr. Colleen Hanycz, says, ?With empowerment being a chief ingredient of the Brescia experience, it is appropriate that we welcome Evanna to share her own leadership experiences and insight with us on such an important day for young women around the world.?

?

The Sophia Series lecture, which begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public, concludes a big day for Evanna at Brescia. She will also be making a guest appearance at a full-day workshop in honour of International Day of the Girl. Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public?Works and Government?Services and Minister for Status of Women, announced in March that Canada will celebrate the first International Day of the Girl on?October 11th?following its recent designation by the United Nations. Over 300 Grades Seven and Eight girls will take part in the Brescia event, in partnership with the Thames Valley School Board and the London District Catholic School Board. Also featured during the day-time workshop will be Jane Roy, Executive Director of the London Food Bank, and Susan Truppe, Parliamentary Secretary for Status of Women Canada and MP, London North Centre.

Tickets for the Sophia Series lecture with Evanna Lynch as guest speaker will go on sale beginning Saturday,?September 29th?from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the foyer of the St. James Building at Brescia University College. Ticket costs are $10.00 for students and $15.00 for adults. Parking for this event and for ticket pick-up on?September 29th?is free at Brescia.
