ASOP and Google Help Warn Consumers About Online Dangers; European Partners Join ASOP Efforts

Google has begun running search-based advertising aimed to help educate US consumers about illegal online drug sellers. The Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP) worked with the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies (CSIP) and Google to compile a list of frequently searched online pharmacy related terms, such as ?meds no prescription,? ?online pharmacy,? and names of medicines. Results from such searches will return Google ads that direct consumers to messages about Internet drug outlet risks. Messages include videos created by CSIP.?

On December 4-5, 2012, ASOP co-sponsored the first Transatlantic Strategic Summit on Internet Pharmacy held in Brussels. The summit brought together ?leading public and private sector organizations to consider a global, practical approach to make the Internet a safer place for consumers and patients,? as noted by CSIP, also a co-sponsor of the event. US and European officials, as well as international organizations were represented at the summit.?
