Microsoft Moves Skype Switch Day

MOBILE, Ala. - If you're dreading the day that Microsoft retires it's Windows Live Messenger, you'll get a little more time to say goodbye. Microsoft says instead of on March 15th, Live Messenger will transition to Skype on April 8th.

Skype is also testing a video messaging feature that lets users record messages for contacts who aren't online.

If you have the latest version of Skype for either Mac, Android or IOS, you can use the feature now. If you use Skype on another platform, you can still receive video messages. Skype does plan to roll the feature out to all its other platforms over time.

Dreams of starting a tech hub like Facebook are usually chased in Silicon Valley. But now, a new way of thinking has entrepreneurs ditching the idea of having to move west.

The tech company 1776, whose tech hub will be right in the heart of downtown Washington D.C. says it's all about using your community's unique ecosystem to build something that can thrive from it's own assets. It's a concept that can be applied in any city.

And finally, Facebook announced Friday it was hacked back in January but no user information was compromised. They're calling it a sophisticated attack in which the Java programming language was mainly exploited. If you use Java, make sure you have the latest updates.

Facebook says it's working with law enforcement to prevent future attacks.

That's your Daily Tech.
