Let's be honest: It can be a little awkward to watch your parents date again after divorce. But do grown kids have the right to be squeamish when divorced parents date someone much younger?
That's the question Redditors considered Wednesday, when throwawaymomissue opened up about being "severely weirded out" after meeting her divorced mom's new partner over the winter break. Why? According to the 20-year-old Redditor, her 45-year-old mom -- who came out as bisexual five years ago -- is dating a 19-year-old woman.
"She's 19! A year younger than me!" throwawaymomissue wrote. "My mom's banging a girl who graduated high school a year after I did! I thought she was another girl coming home for Christmas, right up until she took my mom's hand and introduced herself."
Though the college student says she "fully supports and accepts [her] mom's sexuality" and knows "it shouldn't be [her] business what [her] mom and [the new girlfriend] do with their lives," she's more than a bit bothered by this particular relationship.
"I'm 20, and my mom's girlfriend is 19," she wrote, after outlining the things that bother her most about the relationship, including the couple's penchant for piling on the PDA. "I am severely weirded out by this. How right am I to be this weirded out?"
