Therapeutic Adventures ? SUMMARY OF SERVICES

With 30+ years of unparalleled experience, Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. is an innovative leader in the adaptive outdoor industry offering a full spectrum rehabilitation, education and programs. Over the years, we have provided specialty camps and therapeutic retreats, alpine and nordic skiing instruction, adaptive leadership challenge courses, sailing, rock climbing, sea kayaking, canoeing, rowing, and adaptive fly fishing instruction/guide services. We continue our commitment to work with individuals, groups, families, rehabilitation centers, military hospitals, medical centers, special education programs, and therapeutic recreation departments.


OUR MISSION:?
To educate, to challenge and to inspire ALL persons with differing abilities to improve their quality of life by providing greater access, awareness and participation in adaptive sports, adaptive outdoor recreation and specialty therapeutic services.

Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. has developed a unique and integrative approach to instruction using: our IndependencePlus Model, our adaptive Circle of Courage model, and our Adaptive Outdoor Skills Mastery System.?

TA? adaptive guides have developed programs and instruction protocols for adaptive snow sports, adaptive paddling (kayaking & canoeing), sailing, fly fishing, and climbing, to name a few.

Our Adaptive Outdoor Safety Council (AOSC) has developed best practice guidelines, code of ethics as well as safety standards for adaptive outdoor leaders.? Through our unique approach to teaching, coaching, guiding and mentoring, we empower our adaptive students/clients to set goals and to strive for functional independence.

    Program services are broken down into four areas:

  • Wounded Warriors, Disabled Veterans and their Families
  • Cancer Survivors
  • Chronic Illnesses and Other Special Health Needs

Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. has been honored and privileged to provide specialized adaptive outdoor rehabilitation services for wounded warriors, disabled veterans and their families since the early 80?s. We have provided annual programs for McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, VA.? We have also partnered with and served patients from the VA in Roanoke, VA; Walter Reed Medical Center in DC; and Virginia Neuro-Care which provides rehab for traumatic brain injured (TBI) soldiers.

TA has worked with disabled veterans who have served in the Korean War, Vietnam, Bosnia, the Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq.? We have also worked with those who are victims of war and oppressed societies such as Somalia, and some Eastern European countries.? We could not do this without the support of Paralyzed Veterans Association (PVA), Wounded Warriors Project, and the associated Military and Veterans Hospitals.
